Use Vora Calculator Offline: Add It to Your Home Screen
Vora Calculator works like an app. Add it to your phone's home screen, open it once with a connection, and 41 of its 42 tools keep working with no internet at all: on a plane, on the Tube, abroad without roaming, or when the signal drops. This guide shows how to set it up and what still needs a connection.
The short answer
- Open the site once online. Your device then saves the pages, and the calculators keep working without a connection.
- 41 of 42 tools work offline. Only the Currency Converter needs internet, because it fetches live reference rates.
- Updates arrive when you are online. With a connection you always get the latest page. Without one, you get the copy saved on your device, so old rates stay old until you open the site online. Safety tips.
How to add Vora Calculator to your home screen
iPhone (Safari)
- Open voracalculator.com in Safari.
- Tap Share. If your tab bar is at the top, tap the Page Menu button first, then Share.
- Scroll down and tap Add to Home Screen. If you do not see it, scroll to the bottom of the list, tap Edit Actions and add it.
- Tap Add.
Android (Chrome)
- Open voracalculator.com in Chrome.
- Tap the More menu (three dots) beside the address bar.
- Tap Install and create shortcut, then Install, and follow the on-screen steps.
Menu names can differ slightly between phone models and browser versions. These steps follow Apple's and Google's own help pages, linked in the sources below. Wait a few seconds after the first visit so the pages can finish saving in the background.

What needs internet
The Currency Converter asks a rate provider for the latest reference rate each time you convert, so it cannot work offline. The page itself still opens, but converting shows a message that it cannot reach the currency data provider. The rates come from Frankfurter, which publishes European Central Bank reference data.
If you know you will be offline, convert once while you have a connection and note the rate. Then multiply: amount × rate. You can do the multiplication in the Scientific Calculator, which works offline.
Google's own help page makes the same general point: web apps can work offline, but some may not work completely without an internet connection.
How offline mode works
The first time you open the site, your browser saves a copy of the pages and files it needs. This is done by a small background script called a service worker, which is a standard browser feature.
- Online: the site loads the latest version of each page and refreshes the saved copy. If the connection is slow and the page takes more than about 4 seconds, it opens the saved copy instead.
- Offline: the site opens the saved copy. A page you never opened and that never finished saving shows a short "You're offline" page.
- After an update: when we publish a new version, for example new tax-year rates, your device downloads fresh copies the next time you open the site with a connection.
- If you never go online: your device keeps the old copy, so old VAT and tax rates stay on screen after a rate changes. Open the site with a connection at least once a month, and whenever a rate change is announced.
The whole saved copy is about 1 MB.
Staying safe when rates change. Standard VAT rates change rarely, but a new rate can start in the middle of a year, as in Finland on 1 September 2024 and Estonia on 1 July 2025. A price, invoice or VAT return worked out with an old rate is wrong from that date.
- Before you invoice, publish a price or file a return, confirm the rate on Your Europe, in the Taxes in Europe Database, with your national tax authority, or on GOV.UK for the UK. Use the calculator for the arithmetic only. Checking needs a connection, so do it when you are online.
- Use the rate for the date of the sale, not today's rate. Under EU rules it is the rate in force at the time of the chargeable event, generally when the goods are delivered or the service is performed. In the UK a new rate applies from the date it takes effect, and HMRC has special rules for supplies that span a change. Deposits, advance payments and invoices dated close to a change need the tax authority's transitional rules.
- If in doubt, type the rate yourself in the VAT Calculator instead of using a country preset, and keep a note of the rate, the date of the sale and where you checked it.
- If you used the wrong rate, do not guess. Ask your tax authority or an accountant how to correct invoices and returns, because the rules and time limits differ by country.
The current standard rates, with sources, are in our VAT Rates in Europe 2026 guide.
Your numbers stay on your device
Calculations run in your browser. The Currency Converter is the only tool that contacts another service: it sends the two currency codes, such as USD and EUR, to its rate provider. The amount you type is never sent.
Questions and answers
Do I need internet to use Vora Calculator?
Only the first time. Open the site once while you are online, and your device saves the pages. After that, 41 of the 42 tools work with no connection. The Currency Converter is the exception because it fetches live reference rates.
Which Vora Calculator tool does not work offline?
The Currency Converter. Every other calculator, converter and generator runs on your device.
Will I see old VAT or tax rates when I am offline?
Offline, you see the version your device saved the last time you were online, so after a rate change you would see the old rate until you open the site with a connection. Opening it online loads the latest page and refreshes the saved copy. Before you invoice or file a return, confirm the rate with your tax authority.
Is my data sent anywhere when I use a calculator?
Calculations happen on your device. The only tool that contacts another service is the Currency Converter, which sends the two currency codes to its rate provider. The amount you type stays on your device.
How much storage does the offline copy use?
The saved copy of the whole site is about 1 MB.

Good to know
Offline mode depends on your browser and device. If you clear your browser's site data, the saved copy is removed and you will need to open the site once with a connection to save it again. Calculators give estimates for everyday use and are not tax or financial advice.
